Only couple of world’s regions are blessed with perfect wine-growing climate and terrain, and even fewer make for a nice visit. Check out for the destinations that also make for excellent vacation spots. You might even be surprised at how close they are to home!

  • Finger Lakes, NY
  • Provence, France
  • Elqui Valley, Chile
  • Tasmania, Australia
  • Valais, Switzerland

Finger Lakes, NY

When people think about New York, their mind automatically goes to New York City. But just 5 hours north of the Big Apple, you’ll find New York State’s very own wine country in the Finger Lakes.

This area consists of 11 lakes and over 100 wineries. The best way to enjoy the vast vineyards is on a guided tour, because you won’t have to worry about choosing a designated driver. Many of the region’s wineries also offer gastropub-style dining options, all locally sourced.

Provence, France

Are you a rosé drinker? Then head to the Provence region in the South of France. Cities in this area include Nice, Saint-Tropez, and Cannes, where you can sip your wine while hanging by the beach and enjoying the beautiful landscape.

Another popular attraction in Provence are the lavender fields. Pack yourself a pique-nique, and sip your pink wine in a fragrant field of purple flowers.

Elqui Valley, Chile

If you love Chilean wine, then you can do no better than the Elqui Valley. In addition to this region’s delicious Syrah and Sauvignon Blanc, you can also try some Pisco, the local delicacy. This drink is a Chilean/Peruvian brandy distilled from the region’s own grapes. Book a winery trip followed by a Pisco distillery tour for the full Elqui Valley experience.

Tasmania, Australia

Tasmania is known both for its devils and for its wine. If you love Pinot Noir, Chardonnay, and sparkling wines, then it’s time to head to the island under the Land Down Under. The culinary scene is also booming in Tasmania, which means perfect wine pairings with every meal! Discover how wine can enhance the natural flavors of a dish. Afterward, you can visit the devils at the Tasmanian Devil Conservation Park.

Valais, Switzerland

Did you know that most of Switzerland’s high-quality wines stay within the country’s border? If you want to try them, you’ll have to journey to Switzerland. The mountain-framed Valais region produces both red and white beauties, and you can sip your wine of choice while gazing at the stunning Matterhorn.
